Where and when

Century Downs Racetrack & Casino sits at 260 Century Downs Drive, Rocky View AB T4A 0V5, outside Calgary's city limits. The venue's phone number is 587-349-7777, and its official pages are at cnty.com/centurydowns.

The casino publishes these hours:

  • Sunday to Thursday: 9:30 am to 3 am
  • Friday and Saturday: 9:30 am to 4 am

The doors open at the same time every day of the week, which makes a weekday morning visit easy to plan. Holiday hours have not been confirmed. Check the official site before a statutory holiday. For a wider view of early openings, see Morning hours.

Getting in

Gambling in Alberta is for adults, and the legal age is 18. Under AGLC's casino terms, staff check valid government-issued photo ID whenever someone appears to be under 25. If they are not satisfied that the person is 18 or older, they refuse entry. Carrying a driver's licence or passport saves a conversation at the door.

The Derby Restaurant inside the casino is 18+. No dress code is published.

On the floor

The official pages describe a large floor of slot machines and VLTs. The two pages give different counts, so this note leaves the number out. The floor also has electronic table games, including fully automated Electronic Roulette, and an off-track betting lounge for simulcast racing.

The official pages do not mention live dealer tables or a poker room. Do not assume either exists. Confirm with the venue first if those are the reason for a visit.

On loyalty, one official page names Winner's Edge, AGLC's province-wide programme, and another names Winners' Zone. Sign-up is free at Guest Services or at a self-serve kiosk. Members can use it for ballots in members-only draws and for dining discounts at The Derby Restaurant. The venue's loyalty page has the current details, and winnersedge.ca sets out how Winner's Edge works.

The racing season

This is a working racetrack, and the track's calendar shapes the day. The 2026 Standardbred (harness) season ran on Saturdays from April 4 to August 29, with a 12:45 pm post time. The official racing page now thanks fans for the season, so harness racing has finished for the year.

Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing runs from September 19 to October 31, 2026. Post time is 1:45 pm MT on Saturdays and 6:15 pm MT on Fridays. A Saturday afternoon card is the most natural daytime visit while the season lasts.

The venue states that all wagers are cash only and that race programmes cost $2. The racing page carries the schedule.

Food and extras

The venue lists these outlets:

  • The Derby Restaurant, inside the casino (18+)
  • Homestretch Room, indoor dining on the second floor during racing
  • The Oaks Lounge
  • The Starting Gate Food Trailer, trackside on race days

Opening hours for the restaurants are not in this guide's notes. For a lunch visit, check The Derby Restaurant's page before you set out. The venue also offers trackside group packages for 10 to 100 guests, booked through its inquiry form.

Getting there

Century Downs is about 20 minutes north of downtown Calgary on Highway 2 (QE II), and about 5 km north of Calgary International Airport. By car, the trail is short and direct.

Without a car, it is harder. The venue is outside the city, and this guide found no published Calgary Transit route to it. Plan on a taxi or a ride from someone else, and see Without a car for general notes. Parking details are not published in the sources this guide relies on, so check with the venue if that matters for your visit.

Before you go

  • Bring photo ID and some cash if you plan to wager on races.
  • Check the racing calendar. After October 31, 2026, the track goes quiet until the next season is announced.
  • Set a time and spending limit before you arrive. GameSense information is available in Alberta casinos and racing entertainment centres, and at gamesenseab.ca.
  • AGLC's self-exclusion programme covers casinos and racing entertainment centres.
  • For support, call or text 211 (ab.211.ca), or call the Addiction Helpline (Recovery Alberta) at 1-866-332-2322, 24/7 and toll-free. More is on Play safe.

Other venues are listed under Field notes.
