Notes on method

Field method for gathering these notes

Every note in this guide comes from published records, read in a set order and checked against each other. This page explains where the facts come from, what happens when they disagree, and what the guide does not claim.

Field notes by Nadia Brandt · checked October 2026

Where the notes begin

Each field note starts with the venue's own website: its hours, gaming, dining and contact pages. The guide reads these before anything else.

For rules that apply across the province, the guide turns to official bodies. AGLC covers regulation, age and casino rules. The Alberta iGaming Corporation keeps the directory of registered online sites. Calgary Transit provides station names.

Listing and directory sites show only where a gap might be. If a value appears only there, the guide leaves it out or describes it without the number.

When the trail forks

Sources do not always agree. When two give different values, the guide does not choose between them. It leaves the number out, or it says that the venue publishes the figure and points to the official site.

This happens more often than one might expect. Published opening times for Cowboys Casino differ from source to source. The ACE Casino Airport site gives two versions of its Sunday hours on its own pages. In cases like these, the field note says the hours vary and sends the reader to the venue.

Open or closed on the home page

The open or closed marker on the field guide is calculated from each venue's published casino-floor hours, read in Mountain time, the time zone Calgary keeps. It is a calculation, not a live feed.

The marker does not reflect holiday closures, private events or changes made after the last check. Table games and poker rooms often keep separate hours from the main floor. Before a visit, especially an early one, the venue's own site is the final word. Morning hours sets out the published opening times side by side.

Distances

The distance shown next to each venue is a straight line from the neighbourhood the reader chooses, measured across the map rather than along a route. It is not a driving or walking distance. Roads, river valleys and highway interchanges make most real trips longer. For routes by train or bus, see Without a car.

What the guide does not claim

The guide works only from published records. It has not visited the venues, telephoned them, interviewed staff or tested anything on a gaming floor, and the notes do not suggest otherwise. It takes no bets and holds no accounts.

Gaps stay gaps. When a reader might expect a fact the sources do not support, such as parking rates or a dress code, the note says so plainly.

Last checked

The facts on this site were last checked in October 2026. When a fact carries its own date, the date appears with it, for example the launch of Alberta's regulated online market on July 13, 2026. Hours and floors change. If something here does not match a venue's own site, follow the venue's site.
